Operational Maturity Score (OMS)

A clear 0–100 view of your IT health.

Most small offices feel the symptoms of bad IT long before they see the cause: slow logins, random Wi-Fi drops, half-updated machines, and security tools no one quite understands. The Operational Maturity Score (OMS) turns all of that into a single, simple number — a 0–100 snapshot of how secure, stable, and well-maintained your environment really is.

Every Quiet IT Checkup now includes your OMS.

What the OMS Is

The OMS is Enuclea's small-business IT health score.

Instead of handing you a stack of technical findings, we give you a clear, business-friendly grade from 0–100 that shows:

  • how exposed you are to common security issues
  • how stable your network and Wi-Fi really are
  • how healthy and maintained your devices are
  • how organized and supportable your environment is

It's not a compliance audit, a penetration test, or a sales trick. It's a calm, honest read on where things stand today.

Why We Built It

Most IT conversations sound like noise: patches, firmware, RDP, firewalls, VPNs, EDR, MDR, zero trust. Small business owners don't need another acronym. They need a way to answer one simple question:

"Are we okay, or are we one bad day away from a real problem?"

We built the OMS to replace guesswork with clarity. Behind the scenes, it's rooted in the same foundational ideas used in CMMC Level 1 — the federal baseline for basic security hygiene — but adapted and re-weighted for normal small businesses that don't live in the world of government contracts and paperwork.

You get the benefits of a structured, standards-aware assessment, without the bureaucracy.

What the OMS Measures

The OMS is built from four weighted categories:

1. Security Posture (40%)

Firewalls, exposed ports (like public RDP), MFA, antivirus/EDR, and patching. Security carries the highest weight because one incident can stop the entire business.

2. Network Stability (25%)

Wi-Fi design, router placement, cabling, interference, router/modem health. Unreliable Wi-Fi is one of the biggest productivity killers in small offices.

3. Endpoint Health (20%)

Workstation and server maintenance, OS updates, AV/EDR health, aging hardware. This is where slow machines, failing drives, and it's just always a bit flaky live.

4. Operational Hygiene (15%)

Backups, documentation, password practices, equipment organization, inventory. This determines how easy it is to support, troubleshoot, and grow.

Each category is scored from 0–100, weighted, and combined into your final OMS score.

How the OMS Works During a Quiet IT Checkup

When you book a Quiet IT Checkup, we:

  • review your Wi-Fi, router, and basic network layout
  • look at key devices, update status, and basic protections
  • check for things like exposed RDP and outdated routers
  • note how organized and supportable everything is

From there, we calculate your OMS, including:

  • a 0–100 score
  • a breakdown by category
  • a short, plain-language summary
  • a small set of prioritized next steps

You'll see exactly why the score is what it is — and what would move it higher.

What Your Score Tells You

We group scores into four ranges:

  • 90–100: Optimized — Secure, modern, and following best practices.
  • 75–89: Stable — Mostly healthy, with a few recommended improvements.
  • 50–74: Functional but Vulnerable — Things work, but risks and inefficiencies are present.
  • 0–49: At Risk — Security gaps, outdated equipment, or serious stability issues likely exist.

Your OMS is not a scare tactic. It’s a way to see your environment the way we do, without needing to be technical.

How the Score Improves Over Time

As we make improvements — closing exposed ports, stabilizing Wi-Fi, replacing outdated equipment, turning on MFA, catching up on updates — your OMS score moves up.

We typically re-score twice a year (or after major changes), so you can see:

  • before and after improvements
  • which changes had the biggest impact
  • how your risk level is trending over time

Instead of guessing whether IT is better than last year, you’ll be able to point to a number.

Where the OMS Fits in Enuclea’s Services

The OMS is now a standard part of how we work:

  • Quiet IT Checkup — every checkup includes a baseline OMS.
  • CO-IT (Collaborative IT) — we use the OMS to focus ongoing work where it matters most.
  • Project Work — network redesigns, migrations, and cleanups are all reflected in your score.

It’s a quiet, consistent through-line that keeps everyone on the same page.
